Burundi was either reduced to statistics and despair or elevated into unrealistic romanticism. Success was simplified into slogans. Failure was dramatized into identity. The first expression of this philosophy became The Setback Podcast. Instead of repeating motivational phrases, the podcast invited professionals to speak honestly about what it takes to build something meaningful. Discipline, skill development, ethics, patience, mistakes, and long processes were placed at the center of the conversation. For more than two years, these conversations built quietly. They were not optimized for trend cycles. They were not designed for quick monetization. They were created as an archive of lived professional truth. The audience that gathered was not built on hype. From individuals, the philosophy expanded to the country itself. The Burundi I Know emerged as a natural continuation of the same commitment. If we could document the journeys of people with honesty, we could also document the landscape, memory, and daily realities of Burundi with the same discipline.
